There is nothing much to report, the only thing that I will say is that I am in hitaus from this blog. I have to be. I'm in the middle of a quarter session. So...I haven't had time to write anything. I know that there are those of you out there that I wondering where I have been. I have been okay. I'm still alive and well. Thank you. By the way, as you may have noticed any spam comments will be completely ignored. I will NOT post any comment, that I feel is not just. If you post a comment that I feel and see is real I will post it. But seeing as all the comments are spam, not real, no deal.

Cerritos' Bookstore Beast

Hello everyone! Just another update about me. It's always about me. Since the last time I saw you there is one new development. This coming fall semester I begin at California State University Los Angeles. Really. And it's soon. There is one way to describe what I have felt over the last nine months and what I will feel when it begins. What do I do? What do I say? What do I wear? How does a Bookstore Beast like me feel, say and think? I can't, I won't. I will just let myself be and let me "be me." Just like anything and anyone I have ever met. If you let me "be me" I will love you forever and ever and ever and ever and 100 times ever. There is no better way then to let me be who I have always been. I know that as a student one must be able to read and read and now that in a quarter session there an intense speed to it. Speed is my middle name. And intense goes in the same sentence. If I can memorize 1400 books, as 23,000 students look for books, who says that one can't try and love a quarter session?See you at CSULA or Cerritos or somewhere between here, Los Angeles, Hollywood or Long Beach or somewhere in between.

Love for Xena...at least on a shirt

Greetings everyone!!!
FINALLY!! Here is a new photo of me, with yes, a Xena Warrior Princess t-shirt on. I realize that it's been a loooooooooooooong time. Forever, even. But nothing as changed much and yes, I have been okay. Alive. Well. Breathing. And loving Xena (or is that Lucy Lawless) again. I call it re-obsessing again.

Taking at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, this person was nice, super nice, to give me the photos of myself. THANK YOU a 100 times over and over and over and over again.

So much as changed, but I have. In terms of reading books. I have been thinking if I can re-obsess about Xena Warrior Princess I can re-obsess about other things and just read about other books. But most of all I just wanted all of you to see me now. Where I am. And how I look.

It's been so long, how has everyone been?

It's been so long. Where do I begin? What should I say? I know...just say...HI! And my apologies for the longest delay, but I have been through and back with the things that I must do. I have been offered admission to a Cal State University campus but I have yet to confirm that it is where I am going. I am just in the beginning stages of seven months off after seven years of community college. So...what have I been doing? READING. I know, I know, not the most exciting thing to do while one sits and waits, and waits, and waits and waits...

But reading for me is a place I like to be and being able to have creative juices flowing in my mind. Besides, imagine a world without books. How boring. I would go mad. Even crazy. And cry a flood. I'm on my third book, F.X. Toole, the man who wrote "Rope Burns: Stories From the Corner," a.k.a. "Million Dollar Baby" to the rest of the world. Great book. His second and last book, "Pound for Pound" I gotta say, impressed with the details. Make me want to fight now. I have read Andre Agassi, "Open" book as well. Another impressive book. I applaud his words and such and I will read Greg Louganis book, "Breaking the Surface" from 1995, and such. As you can see all the books are from men. What can I say? I have crushes on men all the time. I such a girl.

I'm also at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I keep volunteering. I'm having fun. Why ruin a good thing. Something like 1,200 hours or more. Who knows? Who cares? As I go through these next seven months the only thing that will make me happy besides a book is knowing that somehow, some way I've made a person laugh because I believe that the more I do, the more I read and the more I make people laugh the brighter they shine. You know that Madonna song, "Lucky Star" when the lyrics, say, "Star light star bright the star I see tonight, star light star bright makes everything alright." I try to shine but it's who I've met that have treated my with kindness that shine the brightest. THANK YOU to everyone single human being and fan out there. They will be the first people I will thank when I win an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, and Tony.

December 2010 is here. Only means 2011 is knocking.

Semester is almost done. GOOD.

Applied to four Cal State Universities

Greetings! I regret to say that I apologize for not writing as much. There is too much going on. And yet, this is the period to beginning applying for university. And so I have. Four of them to be exact. At this moment I decline to state which ones. But all I need and want is for one to say yes. Forgive me for being vague, but I must. Nothing is for certain and nothing is impossible. All I can say is that I trying my hardest to end the class that I need here and NOW.

The Most Famous Face In the Place

Hello out there, America!

How are you? Long time, no write. Hope that everything is well. And its that time of school year. Another semester, another class. And yet, I think it's my last. I intend on applying for university this semester and first things, first; knowing where I stand in five weeks. During the last entry, and since June 3 when my last semester was I have read five books (and working on a sixth book) and have been at Cerritos College.

It seems as if I can't get away from Cerritos. Three years will make you say, "YES" and make you gray. Turns out that there were 23 million Norma fans out there. And that to me means one thing...

Make it 30 million Norma fans next semester. Thank you to every fan out there who I saw, spoke to, and who saw me; it what happens when you are the most famous face in the place. The most interesting book I have ever read was about, "The Untold Story of the Rev. James Jones and His People." To the author...its the most important book I have ever read. READ IT, READ IT, READ IT! That's all I got to say.

Lastly, to everyone at the Cerritos College Bookstore. Again, I wish there were stronger words then thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been forever: Update from Norma

It's been forever. How are you? I mean, you out there? Everything on my end is okay. I'm about as okay as I can be. I have had time to read. I'm a huge fan of John Grisham. In doing so, I'm only left with two of his books to read before another comes out in October. And there another thing...

As a volunteer, I have reached more than 1,000 hours at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach!

MORE THAN 1,000 HOURS, Imagine.

Getting there has been easy and is certainly a lot of work but I have had fun. Since I have reached 1,000+ I can now...
retire!

There are people who expect me to be at the Aquarium every Saturday and (now) Sunday and they are happy to see me. I'm just happy to be seen, but then I realize for them to be happy to see me, and say 'hi Norma' it's what happens when you are a rock star.

Well, this was short and more to come as Aug. 30 rolls around. Still then I will sit and read and begin to do 1,000 more hours. By the time I get to 1,000 hours I'll be...99 years old, same age as the legendary John Wooden.

Resting up for the fall semester

HELLO!!!!

I would hope that you didn't think I abandoned you because I didn't. I just haven't been paying attention lately and everything is in a whirlwind right now. I passed my class and I have another class to go until I transfer (FINALLY!) to a university. The semester starts Aug. 30 at Los Angeles City College and I have decisions to make and mistakes to make?! Yes?

And so that's why I haven't written to a lifetime, or is it? I wanted to participate in the class graduation this last semester but I wasn't sure whether I was going to pass my class. I should have but I didn't. My college graduation is more important to me. High school was a forgetful and undesired time. And....and just and...

And so I leave you with this. Don't think I haven't forgotten...I haven't. Where I am now is better than where I was before. LACC is different. Cerritos was and still is home. LACC was where I wanted to be not where I had to be. And remember, (those of you out there who know me) write me if you want. It's free...just like hugs.

Now if I can get through this last class it means I have a brain...

Question: Where did Norma go?

Alas, I have but a minute to spare for you, whoever you are. I know, I know, where has Norma gone? I'm busy with class, that's where I have been. And we (my sister and I) have the house to ourselves. My parents are out of town until June 3. And no I will not say where.

Just a quick rundown of where I am:

• Next week is the last week before FINALS week.
• Summer session is cancelled at Los Angeles City College
• Could I go back to Cerritos College for summer? Answer: Never say never. I never rule it out
• Fall semester begins on Aug. 30 at LACC

And I have been enjoying get to know our dog Roxie, who is now six months. I love the little buzzard.

April's here that means one thing: I'm 30!

April's here and there are a four things to take note of:

First, April 12 would have been Michele Cassiano's 45th birthday. Imagine, being only 45 and beautiful too. She had so much energy and kindness that I know where ever she is she is watching me and her eldest son and 19-year-old daughter do well on earth. As for her sister Tina...I hope that everything is well and knows that I know her birthday is coming up in May.

Second, April 26 would have been Richard Runyon's birthday and the anniversary of Lucille Ball's death. How do I know that?...beats me really. I just do.

And finally...YES...it's true April 27 is my 30th birthday...YES! I said I am 30 years old and looking at it this way: My mind says I'm five, my body says I'm 15, but I know that I'm 30 and hoping to feel younger.

I want to be honest about something. There is always that question of, "What do you want for your birthday?" It's easy, simple and priceless...

Every time you hear a Madonna song, dance.

Her name is Roxie, named after Hart

Here are photos of our dog, Roxie who is more than four months. She was born Nov. 10, 2009 and was at the Downey Southeast Area Animal Control Authority. She has been with us for more than a week. I named her Roxie, after the character Roxie Hart from the musical, "Chicago."

She is a bundle of energy and very loving, and in the training stage.

I have always found it important to be yourself and never be afraid to reach out to someone. With that, below is an e-mail I sent to Cerritos College President/Superintendent Dr. Linda Lacy who has been at Cerritos since September 2009.

Hello Dr. Linda Lacy,

Greetings, and if I may let me introduce myself. My name is Norma Palacios, I am a former Cerritos and current Los Angeles City College student. I have wanted to make your acquaintance since last August. I have followed your progress, and want to say I hope that you have enjoyed and have come to appreciate the wonderful staff and administrators. In that regard, as a student in general, I came to know Cerritos College with great depth and attribute through the student publication Talon Marks. I was part of the writing staff from 2005-2007 and have come to know more than just a few faces, but names as well, including Andrea Jones and Cheryl Thury and all the board members expect Dr. Liu. As such I have appreciated that all of them were just as gracious in person as they are to everyone with whom they have come in contact with. I appreciated them beyond words. But more than anything there is one thing that I hope that you, Dr. Lacy will take into account how important Cerritos College is to the students and its staff. Being that you are building relationships, as I have done, I want to say, and you are fully aware of, that the state of California and its community colleges and universities across America are facing great financial distress. Education is important. While I have chosen to reserve my opinion about what students are facing, it's no doubt that they are looking for someone to depend on for understanding, open dialogue and (possible) solutions. That is why a person such as yourself is most important. I would hope that there will be a time in which someone will be unafraid to introduce themselves to a class, if not a group of students. With that being said, I would hope that there will be a time that you and I could meet, if possible. If it is not possible that is okay as well. I have lived by the motto of, "Never be afraid to be yourself" and Dr. Lacy, I would hope that you will do the same. I will always be around for those I have met at Cerritos College, and I will be around next semester. If you are ever in the bookstore during student rush I will be around.

I would hope to talk to her. It won't take up her time. I just want to know who she is. That's all. And hopefully get some insight about the importance of education. But let me be clear that I will soon write an e-mail to Los Angeles City College's President/Superintendent as well. No reason, I'm just being unafraid to be myself.

FINALLY! Spring semester has begun

I'm back at it this week; the spring 2010 semester next 15 weeks after that. Yes, it's another round that's begun and (crossed my fingers) a semester to which I hope will lead to being able to apply for a campus university. But I have to get through these last two classes to get there. AND so far...no fireworks to speak of.

Here at Los Angeles City College there are familiar faces. I was at Cerritos College for its rush period in January. Now...well...I miss them all again; because I love them all. That's what happens when you are blessed with talent, and are famous and are totally super nice to me.

LOVE TO ALL AT Cerritos College's BOOKSTORE...you are the true stars...you have the brains...I just hope to think I have one. YOU are the famous ones...I'm just trying to be famous...YOU are the apples to my oranges that's why I'm a truckload. Thank you for putting up with my obessions and imperfections, I am the true Ugly Betty.

Remembering Michele, three years later

It's been three years, but it feels as if it was only yesterday. On Jan. 24 Michele Cassiano passed away from cancer. She was 41. Here's to her for having such an impact on everyone that she met; including me. I will never forget the day I met her.

May she know that her spirit is free and knowing that she will NEVER be forgotten. THANK YOU! And may her family know I will never forget.

Hello everyone!

It's 2010! Amazing. Here is a recap of what I have been up to since I saw (or is that wrote?) you last: I have been laying low for some time and I was actually sad during Christmas Day. I was. It was because of my dog no longer being here. And, I am still looking for more Madonna shirts (when am I not?). And if you are keeping score out there, whoever you are, it's 41 and counting...I do mean counting.

In addition, I have been at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific too, so if you are nearby or plan to visit California come Saturdays and occasionally Sundays. I will be there. Besides, I am the main attraction. As I said before the break, I begin the spring semester on Feb. 8 at Los Angeles City College so I have some time between now and then to visit Hollywood, visit the stars of the Walk of Fame. In other words, my other life.

I hope that everything with you guys and bloggers and those of you who have left comments are well and your New Year's was amazing. And there is other news too. If you don't know my birthday is in April, April 27 to be exact and there will be things that I will be doing for my big 3-0. The first thing will be I will actually go to a bar...maybe in Hollywood. I want to experience that. I want to be out there to see an environment I have never been in. And I want to get drunk.

Can you believe that I'm actually thinking of something else? I am. I just can't tell you about that yet. I will have to show you in pictures. And no I'm not getting married. It's better than getting married, but I will only say I will be getting something...so get your head out of the gutter.

Closing 2010. Transferring in 2011?

I can finally breathe again and look forward to 2010 and perhaps transferring to a university in the fall of 2011. Yes, you heard right, transferring to a university in fall of 2011. I have two classes left in order to transfer. But ladies and gentlemen, I thought that this would NEVER happen. But it has. Now, I look forward to the new year in 2010. Can you believe it? It's looking a lot like 2010. And something else. I will be the big 3-0 in 2010.

Los Angeles City College has been a quiet experience. I have no complains and no regrets about leaving Cerritos College. As you know, nobody ever forgets the first community college one attends and while Cerritos will be in my heart I know that the decision to leave for LACC was best for me. And now look, I have that end of the light, of transferring if all goes well to a university. I love that.

But more than anything this year I lost my best friend, my rock and my little girl. My dog Prieta was just 12 years old and having passed away in October, I don't know whatelse to say but, I will love her forever. I look forward to transferring to a university by 2011.

LACC College President vs. The Collegian

As we have reached the finish line of the spring semester, the campus as been in the headline with Los Angeles City College President and its student newspaper publication The Collegian. It seems that Dr. Jamillan Moore has had a fit with any staff writers from the Collegian and has wanted him or her to sign a release form in knowing who's covering meetings where she is present; or something to that. Anyway the thing is the controversy is whether or not she has a right to do that. And no, she doesn't.

For the last five years since I became interested in mass communication, I have seen what exposed staff writer had to fight for. And former Cerritos College Talon Marks writers know what I am talking about. Remember in 2004 and 2005 the controversy when its Board of Trustees were wry of its meeting taped for online video? I think you do. You should. The student president at the time, thought that having Talon Marks there taping its meeting was a good idea. I have yet, to see that Los Angeles City College student president can take a stand with the Collegian.

While yes, it's a fact that the Collegian is older than Talon Marks these two publication have its ethics and any president that tries to censor anything is wrong. That why it's great that there is a law protecting student publication from censorship. Without that there will be no newspaper. I am not agreeing with Moore's way of trying to intimate the Collegian staff. The story has been significant, as still from me, during this spring semster.

I can forget about the awards from the journalism conference, to the math department's No. 1 ranking in the Los Angeles City College District and smoking on campus. Those story are in the back burner. As for Moore...she still has her job.

Richard C. Runyon eight years later

I wonder after eight years what would Richard C. Runyon be like, and I can to a conclusion: he would have been the same person he'd always been. He would say that he was always younger than his age. I believe, (if not mistaken) would have still had a crush on actress Cameron Diaz. And he would have been the man that was always up for a plane ride. Today, marks a sad and somewhat somber reminder of the day that change when he, and another passanger were killed in a plane at the Santa Monica Airport.

Twenty years of memories come back whenever I think of him and his attitude, his love for his life and for what a giant he was when he walked into a room. At least that's how I saw him. What do I remember most? The numerous shirts he had, and how he liked his stuff organized. How much he looked at me and always treated me with love, although at times he had his way of showing it.

But most of all, I miss seeing him when I was not in school. I haven't seen the house he lived in, in a long while and yet, the house, still looks the same and I remember what it did look like. The train collection was in the living room, the office would be right next to it; the dog Ace would be happy and go in the kitchen. The rest of the train set would be outside by the deck. Anything else I would miss? Yeah, what he would have say about my mom being accepted to California State University, Los Angeles...

He was, after all a giant.

Okay, so you have read the above. Now, I know that this is the one thing that I have wanted to do. And yet, I still have to be cautious. After the disaster that I had from the previous "internship", I still doubt my ability and still have to work toward this, to which I am. Another problem: LOCATION. I wish that I were closer to the city of Santa Monica. If I were and if I could, I would. How many times do opportunities like this, with the Santa Monica Daily Press happen? I can only imagine few and far between. But I'm working on it...BELIEVE ME...I am!!!

Epple, Hughlett in, Avalos out

It's bye-bye-bye Carmen Avalos, and welcome back for Bob Hughlett, and Bob Epple. The Cerritos College Board of Trustees has one newcomer. The former South Gate city clerk, Avalos was ousted by Shin Liu, a college professor.

Avalos was quiet during the four years she was at Cerritos. I talked to her only once and yes, I walked away knowing that she would not last long. And she didn't....and it was like a battery, you know, that they don't last...

User friendly? I guess. New? No. Better than before. Maybe. Future of the 21st century? Not yet. But it's better than the previous one I guess. Cerritos College's new update, futuristic, user-friendly (whatever) page is up and it's okay.

ASCC President Oscar Franco is excited about, but I took a peek and it's just a page with a "better" not "user-friendly" look. I don't know what the big deal is. It's all the rage now. Everyone from MySpace, to YouTube to Facebook will end up saying it, "Check out my NEW USER FRIENDLY PAGE." I say.

Good for you ! Where's the marching band? Confetti?

These recent photos are the latest that are taken of yours truly and after the death of our beloved chow-chow dog, Prieta. SO, I have given you an idea of what I look like now.

As of right now, the fall semester at Los Angeles City College is a little more than halfway done. And I'm out by mid-December. My apologies for the delay of writing, I'm just focused on my classes and reaching the finish line.

I think I look okay, not great. I still have another 20 lbs. that I want to lose. And I'm working on it.

Our Prieta's memory is remembered

Here is your first look at the wooden urn where our beloved Prieta's ashes will remain forever. As you can see the urn has no pictures of our chow-chow just yet. Those picutures are upload to a flash drive and hopefully the urn will be filled with just pictures of her. In the last week, as I have said, Prieta, 12, passed away on Oct. 7 of throat cancer that was diagnosed in August.

Since her death I have walked over the the urn and placed my hand on it and have always remembered everything about her. There will be no other chow-chow like her. I don't know when we, and if we will get another dog. I haven't moved the bed that Prieta slept on since Oct. 7, and I don't plan to. It's the only way that I will never forget.

May we never forget. And finally, below is the generous donation given to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that I mentioned. I was in tears when I saw this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Prieta's ashes are sealed in a wooden box

As all of you know, our dog passed away on Oct. 7. On Oct. 10 her ashes were picked up at a pet cementary in Huntington Beach, California in a wooden box. That box now sits on top of the piano in the living. As of this morning pictures of Prieta were saved on a flash drive so that way the wooden box wouldn't be so plain. As soon as the pictures are placed on the box, a photo (I hope) will be taken. As soon as that happens I will upload the picture onto the blog.

Also...I would like to extend my appreication to someone who made a generous, and I do mean generous donation to the Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in memory of our beloved chow-chow. A card was mailed to our home saying that this person did it in her memory. I would like to say many thanks for the loving thought. It only reinforces what I knew about Prieta; that I, my sister, my mom and dad loved her so much.

In Memoriam to our dog Prieta 1997-2009

Until now, these black and white images of our dog Prieta were private and as a memoriam to her since her passing on October 7, 2009 from throat cancer, I wanted to share these with you. I had take a photography class at Cerritos College in 2000 and decided to use her as my muse. First, I like to apologize for the lack of contrast and such but it was the best I could do. At the time, Prieta was three years old and I would hope that you can see why I fell in love with her as quick as I did. She was energetic, young and full of love for the four of us after getting over her initial shock and her new surroundings. She loved us all but I, fell in love with her instantly.

Never one to let a day go by without telling you she loved you, Prieta had her way of showing love, at least for me. The way she showed me love is that from time to time she would lick my hand, even when I didn't expect it and she would continue to do it for the next nine years of her life. But like I stated before she was one-of-a-kind and that to me is rare in a dog much less a human. Since Wednesday, not a day has gone by without thinking of Prieta and the routine that would following. No more waking up and taking her out to see if she needed water or go at 4:30 a.m. No more worrying about whether she had food or water. No more worrying about whether she is still breathing...and no more...no more waiting and just being able to hug her.

All of that is what I will miss the most, just her being her and having to know that she is protecting and caring for our home. I'm starting to well up in tears. I have been doing that since Wednesday but want can I do? I have never felt the emptiness of losing a family pet, a family dog until now. And I'm 29-years-old! How can anyone just instantly forget a dog that meant so much to so many people. A dog that meant so much to me. I will never, ever, ever, ever forget.

I want to end it by saying that Prieta was a good egg. She was one of a kind, she was almost human and born on my birthday. She will forever be in my heart even when I'm 100-years-old. I LOVE you Prieta!

Now if you will excuse me I have to go get Kleenex tissue to swipe the tears away.

Breaking News: Our Dog Dies 1997-2009

Ladies and Gentleman,

With a unknowing gift for making everyone she knew happy and for teaching me how to grow old, it saddened me to inform you that our chow-chow dog, Prieta has died. She was 12. Yes, this lovable character to whom I called, "My Girl" died of throat cancer at 8:44 a.m. The diagnosis was more than a two months ago. Born on April 27, 1997 Prieta was given to us by a gentleman who was looking for a home for the rest of her family. She, at the time had two brothers and her father was a black chow-chow, and her mother was brown. She came into our home as a gift for my sister and my sister thought that the thing hiding underneath the table was a giant fur ball.

How quickly that thought changed as she fell in love with this dog and so did I. I don't have the words to say what she did for me as a human being. She changed me because I had always known that someone would be waiting for me. I don't know what to tell God at this moment because I can't speak to him right now, I can only speak about what I am feeling.

The way in which she left me was not the way I wanted her to leave this earth. This morning the cancer took away her mobility to walk and stand and I look and told my mom that it was time to put her to sleep. She was no longer eating and the only thing that she wanted to do was sleep. In the more than a month that followed my love for this dog grew. It grew to the point that I would have given my heart and right arm to keep her for one more year. However, that was not to be. And now she's forever gone but she will never be forgotten.

Thank you to this four-legged friend to whom I owe my greatest gratitude for 12 unforgettable years. For the times that you have given me, for letting me pratice my speeches with and for the time that I just needed a hug. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! A gzillion thank yous to you Prieta. I will love you and miss you tomorrow. And always.

Deciding whether she should be put down

I look at Prieta everyday and at this moment I wanted to express what I'm feeling. My mom's confusing, my sister doesn't want to think about it, my dad doesn't want to think about it, and I am not ready to let her go. But I think that the dog will be put to sleep soon then expected. After more than 12 years with us, that is a reality that I am not ready to face.

I can't imagine what that will feel like the day that this dog is no longer around. The throat cancer has possibly returned yet, she will have to be taken to the hospital in order to find out. But that has not happened. But at this moment, I am just loving her with all I can, and have asked the Man above to keep her going for as long as she can.

I don't know what else I can say. I love my dog too much to let her go.

I have been thinking about what to say to you all. I have been thinking how I would say it, but ladies and gentleman, we are taking good care of our dog Prieta for as long as we have her. I know that the cancer that she was diagnosed will one day take her from us, but in the time that she has on this earth, all of us, that is, all four of us will love her until she passes away.

I seriously don't know what I would feel, if anything, when that day happens. Prieta is our first dog, and the first one that I will forever love and will continue to do so for as long as God will let us. Mind you, I don't want to get religious, but at the moment she is concerning me with eating less and sleeping more. Is that a bad sign? I don't want to think about the day that she passes...my tears will never stop, but I was once told that crying will cleanse the soul and mind.

SO, if you have been wondering about what I have been doing what I have just said is what is going on. My love for her, My Prieta is growing each and every day. That is something I am sure of. With all this concern about her at least it brings something out of me...

Hello everyone:

I just had to share this with all of you. I don't know about you, but isn't it annoying when you get e-mail and texts saying that you have to pass along a chain letter to 10, 20 and sometimes 100 people or otherwise the sky will fall on you? Well, yes, everyone of us gets those, who hasn't?

Anyway, the other day, I always have my cell phone with me and (other times I don't) but after coming back from school, I look at my texts. And it came from someone I have known for about six years and it said something like this, (I'm paraphrasing) "Believe in God, and he will lead you the way. Send this text to 10 people."

AND the second said, "Believe and Trust IN HIM." I looked at the text and I didn't know what to say or think, I did either. All I can think about was how she might have found the light, maybe she has decided that being a born again christian was the way she would be happy. But this is coming from someone who had a crush on a (girl). THIS is the same person who told me that she feelings for this person and wanted her. AND I do mean WANTED her.

Nothing wrong with being religious or all that jazz. I have nothing against it. But please, people assume things about me too. I mean I get something like this (it happened only once), "You don't look gay." You don't know the half of it.

How will Dr. Linda Lacy do?

How will Dr. Linda Lacy do? That is how will she succeed at Cerritos College now that the campus has its newly appointed College President. I still think that a more thought-provocating analysis of who she is, and what she can do for this campus. I think that anyone who gets hired in a position that man or woman should be aware that the population will scruntize what they can do.

So that is why Lacy should have been more about what she can do for the students and less about what she could do for the campus. And what does the Board of Trustees members think. What was it about her that made them appoint her. Will she succeed? That is a wait-and-see game. And I don't know but trust me when I say, I will soon introduce myself to Dr. Linda Lacy.

Eight years later: Remembering 9/11

Early in the morning on September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial airliners en route to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Boston, Newark, and Washington, D.C. (Washington Dulles International Airport). At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 was crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower, followed by United Airlines Flight 175 which hit the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. Another group of hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. A fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, whose ultimate target was thought to be either the United States Capitol or White House, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m, after the passengers on board engaged in a fight with the hijackers.

During the hijacking of the airplanes, the hijackers used weapons to stab and/or kill aircraft pilots, flight attendants and passengers. Reports from phone callers from the planes indicated that knives were used by the hijackers to stab attendants and in at least one case, a passenger, during two of the hijackings. Some passengers were able to make phone calls using the cabin airphone service and mobile phones, and provide details, including that several hijackers were aboard each plane, that mace or other form of noxious chemical spray, such as tear gas or pepper spray was used, and that some people aboard had been stabbed. The 9/11 Commission established that two of the hijackers had recently purchased Leatherman multi-function hand tools. A flight attendant on Flight 11, a passenger on Flight 175, and passengers on Flight 93 mentioned that the hijackers had bombs, but one of the passengers also mentioned he thought the bombs were fake. No traces of explosives were found at the crash sites, and the 9/11 Commission believed the bombs were probably fake.

On United Airlines Flight 93, black box recordings revealed that crew and passengers attempted to seize control of the plane from the hijackers after learning through phone calls that similarly hijacked planes had been crashed into buildings that morning. According to the transcript of Flight 93's recorder, one of the hijackers gave the order to roll the plane once it became evident that they would lose control of the plane to the passengers. Soon afterward, the aircraft crashed into a field near Shanksville in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, at 10:03:11 a.m. local time (14:03:11 UTC). Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, organiser of the attacks, mentioned in a 2002 interview with Yosri Fouda, an al Jazeera journalist, that Flight 93's target was the United States Capitol, which was given the code name "the Faculty of Law".

Three buildings in the World Trade Center Complex collapsed due to structural failure on the day of the attack. The south tower (2 WTC) fell at approximately 9:59 a.m., after burning for 56 minutes in a fire caused by the impact of United Airlines Flight 175. The north tower (1 WTC) collapsed at 10:28 a.m., after burning for approximately 102 minutes. When the north tower collapsed, debris heavily damaged the nearby 7 World Trade Center (7 WTC) building. Its structural integrity was further compromised by fires, and the building collapsed later in the day at 5:20 p.m.

The attacks created widespread confusion among news organizations and air traffic controllers across the United States. All international civilian air traffic was banned from landing on US soil for three days. Aircraft already in flight were either turned back or redirected to airports in Canada or Mexico. News sources aired unconfirmed and often contradictory reports throughout the day. One of the most prevalent of these reported that a car bomb had been detonated at the U.S. State Department's headquarters in Washington, D.C. Soon after reporting for the first time on the Pentagon crash, CNN and other media also briefly reported that a fire had broken out on the Washington Mall. Another report went out on the AP wire, claiming that a Delta Air Lines airliner—Flight 1989—had been hijacked. This report, too, turned out to be in error; the plane was briefly thought to represent a hijack risk, but it responded to controllers and landed safely in Cleveland, Ohio.

Casualties

There were a total of 2,993 deaths, including the 19 hijackers: 246 on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. An additional 24 people remain listed as missing. All of the deaths in the attacks were civilians except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

In 2007, the New York City medical examiner's office added Felicia Dunn-Jones to the official death toll from the September 11 attacks. Dunn-Jones died five months after 9/11 from a lung condition which was linked to exposure to dust during the collapse of the World Trade Center.

NIST estimated that about 17,400 civilians were in the World Trade Center complex at the time of the attacks, while turnstile counts from the Port Authority suggest that 14,154 people were typically in the Twin Towers by 8:45 a.m. The vast majority of people below the impact zone safely evacuated the buildings, along with 18 people who were in the impact zone in the south tower; 1,366 people died who were at or above the floors of impact in the North Tower. According to the Commission Report, hundreds were killed instantly by the impact, while the rest were trapped and died after the tower collapsed. As many as 600 people were killed instantly or were trapped at or above the floors of impact in the South Tower.

At least 200 people jumped to their deaths from the burning towers (as depicted in the photograph "The Falling Man"), landing on the streets and rooftops of adjacent buildings hundreds of feet below. Some of the occupants of each tower above its point of impact made their way upward toward the roof in hope of helicopter rescue, but the roof access doors were locked. No plan existed for helicopter rescues, and on September 11, the thick smoke and intense heat would have prevented helicopters from conducting rescues.

A total of 411 emergency workers who responded to the scene died as they attempted to rescue people and fight fires. The New York City Fire Department lost 341 firefighters and 2 FDNY paramedics. The New York City Police Department lost 23 officers. The Port Authority Police Department lost 37 officers, and 8 additional EMTs and paramedics from private EMS units were killed.

Cantor Fitzgerald L.P., an investment bank on the 101st–105th floors of One World Trade Center, lost 658 employees, considerably more than any other employer. Marsh Inc., located immediately below Cantor Fitzgerald on floors 93–101 (the location of Flight 11's impact), lost 355 employees, and 175 employees of Aon Corporation were killed. After New York, New Jersey was the hardest hit state, with the city of Hoboken sustaining the most deaths.

Weeks after the attack, the estimated death toll was more than 6,000. The city was only able to identify remains for about 1,600 of the victims at the World Trade Center. The medical examiner's office also collected "about 10,000 unidentified bone and tissue fragments that cannot be matched to the list of the dead". Bone fragments were still being found in 2006 as workers were preparing to demolish the damaged Deutsche Bank Building.

Damage

In addition to the 110-floor Twin Towers of the World Trade Center itself, numerous other buildings at the World Trade Center site were destroyed or badly damaged, including 7 World Trade Center, 6 World Trade Center, 5 World Trade Center, 4 World Trade Center, the Marriott World Trade Center (3 WTC), and the World Financial Center complex and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

The Pentagon damaged by fire and partly collapsed. The Deutsche Bank Building across Liberty Street from the World Trade Center complex was later condemned due to the uninhabitable, toxic conditions inside the office tower, and is undergoing deconstruction. The Borough of Manhattan Community College's Fiterman Hall at 30 West Broadway was also condemned due to extensive damage in the attacks, and is slated for deconstruction. Other neighboring buildings including 90 West Street and the Verizon Building suffered major damage, but have since been restored. World Financial Center buildings, One Liberty Plaza, the Millenium Hilton, and 90 Church Street had moderate damage. Communications equipment atop the North Tower, including broadcast radio, television and two-way radio antenna towers, was also destroyed, but media stations were quickly able to reroute signals and resume broadcasts. In Arlington County, a portion of the Pentagon was severely damaged by fire and one section of the building collapsed.

I am currently working out again, and trying to lose weight, for me...not for some man, mind you. And I have decided that on or before my next birthday I will do something that I have said I will never, ever, EVER do.

I took a photography class once at Cerritos College, two years before I left and realized the beauty of black and white. And in doing so, I wanted those of you who have them to have one. If I went on and on about why I decided to give you a picture and a card the semester before, it would turn into a novel.

Feeling the fire, but not Talon Marks'

Well, Cerritos College's Talon Marks did come out with its first issue of the semester, six pages...but in knowing that, I know that you can do better. The minimum could be and should be eight pages at least. It's only the beginning, I know, I know, but you can do better.

Here are the things that were missing, a picture of newly hired Dr. Linda Lacy was posted on your web site, not the paper. And two how many of the board members voted for her. Was it 4-3, or 6-1? THIS information must be paid attention too, EIC Rick Gomez. IF you don't then you make it look like smoke and mirrors. But I know that you are still learning...

Getting ready for the fall semester

Hello everyone!

My biggest apologies for not writing often these last weeks. I have been busy, and another student rush just ended at Cerritos College. Now, my attention turns to the fall semester at Los Angeles City College that begins on Monday.

And yet, I want to take this opportunity to say, "THANK YOU!" to EVERYONE at the Cerritos College bookstore for another great time, and given me this opportunity. It was great to share the stage, or should I say, that I got to share the stage with other stars. THANK YOU for all of the lessons.

All I ask from you is that you be safe everywhere and anywhere you go. AND of course your welcome from the autographed photos. Just remember, that I will see you soon and if you for any reason suffer from NORMAsyndrome just look at the photo. And yes, EVERYONE IS A STAR...

Cerritos hires Lacy as its College President

So now that Cerritos College has Dr. Linda Lacy as its newly elected President/Superintendent, what should your Campus Correspondent do? Ladies and Gentlemen, I will soon introduce myself to Dr. Lacy as soon as I can. Yes, Dr. Lacy who replaces Acting President William Farmer Jr. who replaced Dr. Noelia Vela more than a year will be the woman in charge. Woman in charge? Or is it Woman who should be changed?

I hold skepticism and caution against her and those who have been in office, but we will have to wait and see. I'm sure that she will make an effort (or at least try) to get to know the campus. I mean she is coming from Riverside Community College. Click here to read more.

But Dr. Lacy please remember this, President Barack Obama has promised change so I caution that you will try to bring some kind of change to Cerritos College. Never mind, I will NOT hold my breath.

Our dog has Malignant Melanoma

We have found out that our dog, Prieta has Malignant Melanoma...below is a definition of what the disease is...

Malignant melanoma is a tumor arising from melanocytes, which are the cells that produce pigment. Although there is no known cause of malignant melanoma, the predisposition of many breeds makes many researches believe there is a genetic predisposition for this disease.

Malignant melanoma can originate from different areas in the body, most often the oral cavity, skin, and digits. The aggressiveness of the tumor and the likelihood of the metastasis vary with the tumor location. Any organ may be affected by a metastatic melanoma (tumor that has spread from a primary site).

Melanoma is more commonly in dogs than cats and primarily affects middle-aged to older pets (often 9 to 12 years). Black dogs may be predisposed. Male dogs are more commonly affected.

We are all in a state of shock and yet trying to stay with positive energy about this. Prieta is 12 but she is still part of all of us. So, I am saying the positive energy will go to her to make her feel loved and feel safe.

Dog has throat surgery, but is recovering

First. Hello everyone! My apologies for the lack of postings, but I have been busy and distracted at the same time. But our family dog had throat surgery this last Saturday but she has been recovering. Prieta, who has been with us for 12 years had difficulty eating and swallowing prior. We all were worried. By "we," I mean the family, and took her for a check-up and sure enough surgery to the tongue and throat area was needed.

After 2 a.m. she was picked up and didn't eat the rest of the day or the following day after that. But slowly and surely she is starting to eat and drink water again...which is a relief, because without her there is one thing I won't learn...

Hello everyone!!!!!

I know, I know. I know what you are going to say. Where the hell have you been? I know that it has been a while, but I needed to be away from this blog. I need time to see and feel Los Angeles. AND I have. I feel more comfortable in L.A. now more than ever. I have also played Madonna's new single, "Celebration" over and over again.

I have been blasting the song in my ear and I can't get enough, especially these lyrics, "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?/You look familar/Wanna dance/Yeah/I guess I just don't recognize you with your clothes on/What are you waiting for?"

So there...I confess...that is what I have been doing...

but honestly everything is cool and quiet...

A run-in with Bond Girl Maud Adams

I had a run in with James Bond Girl Maud Adams this weekend. Ms. Adams was kind enough to speak to me for a moment, and I will not reveal too much about what was said. But let me say this, I was glad to just say, 'hello.'

L.A. City College faced with probation

BREAKING NEWS: Los Angeles City College has been placed on probation by a accrediting committee for its inadequate planning and and evaluation of effectiveness of student programs.

LA City and LA Trade Technical College are both in deep water. But with this happen there are courses that are not recognized by other college and that means no financial aid. Cerritos' probation was just lifted, by other like East LA College and Southwest College are facing that probation...

Students are suppose to be accounted for as well. I know that. Others should too. But let see the end results and see if the probation is lifted.

Everything so far has been awfully quiet. The summer session ends on July 18 and I'm free after that. Los Angeles City College's fall semester begins on Aug. 31. Bumber, I'd wait until the first week of September but I'm not the boss. I'm still searching for my Michael Jackson t-shirt wearing moment from a long long time ago. I know that they are somewhere in the house. I just don't know where the box went.

I apologize if I haven't seen much lately, like I said it's quiet and nothing new to report...OH...wait...scratch that...I'm up to 40 Madonna shirts...Does that count? YES, I said 4-0. I'm the crazy Madonna freak everyone says I am...but what else is new? Madonna touring, she has her adoptive daughter...and she is still my girl crush.

Anything else? Cerritos College is to name its new College President and I'm still waiting to see if changes will come to all college campuses no matter who's on board...Finally...as you know the Hollywood Show is about a week-and-a-half away, so if you plan on coming to see me, don't forget to get your Norma pictures and autographs for FREE!

Having just to see the continuing coverage of the King of Pop's death. I wanted to share this with you. I liked Michael Jackson before Madonna. Yes, even I, who absolutely adore and love the Queen of Pop, loved the Gloved One. I have pictures to prove it. I will post them as soon as I can find them. They are somewhere in the house.

To add...I watched stunned at the celebrity web site TMZ as the report of his death followed. There are no words for this man's death, and there are no words to describe what I felt. Like everyone around the world I am at a loss. But his music will live on.

LACC cancels its January Winter Session?

Looks like another arrow has been thrown to the Los Angeles City College and surrounding California community colleges. Now, it looks like there will be NO Winter session at LACC due to the budget cut. The Winter session had begun every January, but now with this latest news that is now highly unlikely.

What else is new?

If I may, can I be frank? ALL of this would not be happening right now, if it wasn't for politicans having egos the size of King Kong. I mean, look here's the bottom line, there is no leadership from either the Governator or anyone below him, and that's no surprise. He broke his promise NOT to raise taxes and now education from left to right, and all college students are suffering.

Update: College President: It's down to 2

Update from the Cerritos College President's office and Public Affairs. There are only two candidates left to fill in the position. And here is a re-look at the two that it is down to. Will it be him or will it be her?

Dr. Linda Lacy is Vice Chancellor of Student Services and Operations at Riverside Community College District. Her 23-year service to RCC includes an interim presidency. Dr. Lacy holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree from Central State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Mark Zacovic is Interim Vice President of Administrative Services at Pasadena City College. Prior to joining PCC, he served as Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services at the Contra Costa Community College District. Dr. Zacovic also served one year as President/Superintendent of the Mt. San Jacinto Community College District. He also served the Rancho Santiago Community College District in multiple capacities as Vice Chancellor of Business Operations and Fiscal Services and Interim President of Santiago Canyon College. Prior to his service at RSCCD, he served as Vice President of Business Services at Lake Tahoe Community College. Dr. Zacovic has a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno, an MBA from Whittier College and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

I'm guessing the decision will be coming anytime this week, since by July 1, acting College President William Farmer Jr. will vacant the position. I can't wait to see who it will be. Can you? I am hoping that there will be a person who will take this position seriously and communicate more with the Cerritos people.

Nothing new to report as of yet, everyone. Although I am keeping a close eye on who will be the Cerritos College President/Superintendent. I have enjoyed this summer session so far and now I can report that I got my grades for the two classes I took last semester. For one class it was an "A" and the other was a "B." Other then that, I am going about my business, quietly on campus, as with all college campus, it's a mess with the construction but you deal with it. See you soon, I hope.

Ten Bond Girls and The Fonz

Here is an update on the Hollywood Show...

It is confirmed that there will be 10 Ian Fleming's James Bond girls who will appear. One of the 10 will be Maud Adams, pictured below and from the film, "Octopussy."

Adams, appeared in the Bond film with Roger Moore. And I met her once before...(More on this later, and how).

As with the Brandy Bunch, four of them will be there, including Christopher Knight, Barry Williams, Susan Oslen and now the other television cast who will appear...

The cast of Happy Days...including Henry Winkler, (The Fonz) pictured above, and (to be confirmed) Ron Howard. So, please check out the Hollywood Show web site for more updates, admission information and a list of the celebrities.

Who will be Cerritos' College President?

Hi, everyone!

Everything on this end is quiet. So, that's the reason for the time in between entry. Nothing new to report as of yet. But I know this, Cerritos College will have to find its new college president soon. Acting College President William Farmer Jr. will be there until July 1.

The following bio information is from the Public Relations Office and to be honest, one will be the College President. Who wants it more? Who would care? I don't know.

Dr. Linda Lacy is Vice Chancellor of Student Services and Operations at Riverside Community College District. Her 23-year service to RCC includes an interim presidency. Dr. Lacy holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree from Central State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Mark Zacovic is Interim Vice President of Administrative Services at Pasadena City College. Prior to joining PCC, he served as Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services at the Contra Costa Community College District. Dr. Zacovic also served one year as President/Superintendent of the Mt. San Jacinto Community College District. He also served the Rancho Santiago Community College District in multiple capacities as Vice Chancellor of Business Operations and Fiscal Services and Interim President of Santiago Canyon College. Prior to his service at RSCCD, he served as Vice President of Business Services at Lake Tahoe Community College. Dr. Zacovic has a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno, an MBA from Whittier College and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Dr. Thom Armstrong currently serves as Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs and Acting Vice President of Student Services at Barstow Community College. He joined the college in 2008 after a three-year presidency at Copper Mountain College. Dr. Armstrong also served as Vice President of Instruction at Citrus College from 1997 to 2004. He has a doctorate in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree in history from Portland State University (PSU). Dr. Armstrong also has dual bachelor’s degree in history and political science from PSU.

Dr. Richard Rose has served since 2006 as President at Modesto Junior College. Prior to joining MJC, he served as Vice President of Student Development at San Diego Mesa College. He also served as Dean of Counseling & Matriculation at De Anza College and Dean of Admissions & Records and Enrollment Services at Santa Rosa Junior College. Dr. Rose has a doctorate in educational administration from the University of San Francisco, a master’s degree in educational administration from San Jose State University, a master’s degree in educational psychology from California State University, Hayward, and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary social sciences from San Francisco State University.

Dr. Barry Russell currently serves as Vice President of Instruction at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, CA. Prior to his work at COS, he was the Dean of Fine Arts and Communications at Cerritos College and Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California. Dr. Russell has a doctorate in community college leadership from the University of Texas at Austin and degrees in music from Texas A&M University – Commerce.

Hello to all Friday the 13th fans!

On Saturday and Sunday July 18 and July 19 fans will have the opportunity to meet the seven actors who played "Jason" in the city of Burbank at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.

The Hollywood Collector Show will feature other celebrities that will also be making personal appearances and fans will be able to get their autographs as well as their picture taken with them.

But the biggest of all is those seven actors who will make their public appearance from the Friday the 13th franchise.

Talon Marks to return in the fall (YES!)

Ok, what a last week. First, Cerritos College's newspaper was on the chopping block and then a petition to save the Talon Marks. Now, the publication is coming back for the fall semester! Thank you to the Timi Ross Poeppelman JACC Events Director for the information. I will not directly quote him but I am RELIEVED that this news is out.

You have no idea how HAPPY I am that the student publication is SAVED, and yes, a compromise to come up with a solution!! Now, if only 20 students would help out Talon Marks. To have less than that the staff with be stretched to the limit. Trust me, all staffs have been through it. Don't let me go into details but it's true.

P.S. To the former Talon Marks staff writers who ask to keep up with me on Twitter, I haven't thought to have a Tweet page. And thanks for thinking of me!! How the heck, you are people?

Talon Marks cut, is the Collegian next?

With the dire situation of the finanical crisis in California and with, yes, the Cerritos College Talon Marks gone for the fall semester, (pending an appeal, I hope) is the Los Angeles City College student publication, The Collegian next? At least as a student, that is what I'm asking myself. I'm asking myself that question even before LACC's fall semester begin on Aug. 31.

With that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if every single campus newspaper is gone. Although the Collegian has been around since 1929, the fact of the matter is California is in deep shit. And I don't say that lightly, I say IT'S IN DEEP SHIT, RIGHT NOW!

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is targeting education and looking for more cuts. Thanks to him and every single politican, students are being treated like...____________! (You fill in the blank). Classes cut left and right, and just talking about it is NOT enough.

So those who have worked on the Collegian, you know you could be, if not already next. And there is one last thing I wanted to say, what a way to begin thinking about the summer, huh?

Open letter to Cerritos' 20,000+ students

ATTENTION: Calling on ALL
Cerritos College students!

I am writing you this open letter to inform you that there is a class out there that needs your help. It's called the student publication Talon Marks. This class is possibility gone in the fall semester thanks to low enrollment and the California budget crisis. And while Talon Marks will be appealing this decision it is high time that at least 20 students be in this class, in order for the print edition to stay alive. Like I have stated before in this blog, this publication should stay and keep the presses going. In doing so, the Talon Marks will keep its voice heard.

The Cerritos College administration hasn't not, and most likely will not, answer the letter I sent to them via e-mail. And that to me is the wrong time to ignore this issue. They can excuse themselves by saying that they have enough to deal with but that is NOT an answer. So, once again, every students who is willing and able to help Talon Marks keep its print edition, DO IT because without them, without the campus voice, the one class that you want to enroll could be next. Don't be waiting for the administration to say, "Who's next on the hit list?" Because that's exactly what Los Angeles City College is going through.

Hello everyone and anyone who reads this blog entry:

I have been asked if any Cerritos College student can enroll into the Journalism 105 newspaper article writing class to KEEP the student publication Talon Marks alive for the fall semester. I did have a question for you, "Do you have the passion, commitment and desire to write for the publication?" The reason I ask that is because while this is focused on getting the news out about the campus events there are sacrifices that one has to make to get what needs to be done.

I want to make it known that I had to sacrifice a lot for myself and so has every former writer and editor of this publication. Can I say that it's not the easiest thing is the world to do. So, if you are a Cerritos student, have a passion for writing and wanted to do something where you can look back at it later and say, "Yeah, I did that" then by all means DO it. I WANT Talon Marks to keep printing. I love this publication too much to silence it. I would like to think that other former editors feel the same.

Just find 20 students...or at least 20 students who have a body and a brain.

Open Letter sent to Board of Trustees

Two days ago I sent an open letter to Cerritos College's Board of Trustees about the elimination of the print edition Talon Marks. I'm still waiting for a response from any one of those members.

If I don't hear from them, I plan out confronting them myself. I want answers. I know what they are going to tell me but I want to know if they will reconsider the decision they have made, as of right now.

I do think that Talon Marks can find a way to keep the production of the newspapers. Eliminating it, will only silence the presses. But I will say that if the appeal that you are going to do Talon Marks will work, you are better off taping your mouths shut because the administration is silencing you!

Clarifying LACC's summer class cuts

Let me be clear about what I stated yesterday. The summer classes being affected by the budget crisis have led to the Los Angeles City College administration eliminating the third summer session. It means that any classes that begin on July 22 and end on Aug. 22 will be gone.

I wanted to make sure that all of you understood that. All classes that will begin on June 15 will end on July 18 for its five week run and others will begin on June 15 and end on Aug. 8 for its eight week run.

In doing so, those classes are fine as far as I know. But everyone is Congress and the local and state legislature WAKE UP!!

This can be solved!!

LACC cuts third summer session classes

Los Angeles City College's administration has announced that its third summer session classes are canceled. This is the latest educational cut in California's budget crisis. Any classes starting after July 2 are gone. Every community, Cal State and University are suffering...Thanx in large part to the Governator...

The phrase "I'll be back" should be changed to, "I have failed."

Talon Marks print edition shouldn't be cut

Cerritos College Administration:

Hello Cerritos College Administration. This is an open letter regarding the recent development and the possibly of eliminating the print edition of the student publication Talon Marks. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Norma Palacios and I am a former Cerritos College student. In addition, I am also a former Talon Marks editor. Having been part of Talon Marks from 2005-to-2007, I truly believe that the possibly of NOT having the print edition of the newspaper is a tremendous mistake.

While it is true that enrollment in newspaper article writing has been low, I know as a college student the importance of having the print edition. Those of us who have been part of Talon Marks have learned discipline, dedication and determination to get the information out to the general public of students. How can you, the college administration, say that the on-line version of the newspaper will be able to do that? There are a handful of students who don't spend time on talonmarks.com, the web sites have been Myspace.com and Facebook.com and any other web sites in between.

Talon Marks has said that the on-line version's target audience are those other numerous campuses who are interested to know about what is going on at Cerritos College, but let me ask you this question. How many college campus can say that they have numerous General Excellence Awards for its print edition? Haven't you appreciated the more than 50-years of news that you have gotten? And there are students who do read the print edition. Even if there is 1 student or 1,000 students who have read the newspaper that is valuable to us former editors. But there is more to it.

It has had value to those who have studied journalism and have gotten an opportunity to know what it means to "put in your blood, sweat and tears." This value is important to me. During the two years I was part of Talon Marks, I have applied what I have learned from being part of it. And I have learned the value of the hard work it takes to put the newpaper together.

And while it is only a taste, it has give me an enormous amount of respect for professional journalists and writers. I would like to think that other former editors feel the same way; just as your job titles are important to you. So, let me ask again, "Why do you feel you need to target Talon Marks. Your source, the student source, and campus' source." As you are well aware a well-known Cal State University eliminated its journalism program in 2006 and Talon Marks should not follow suit. Talon Marks is not a follower it's a leader. I would hope you will seriously reconsider your decision.

Talon Marks responds to class cut

Below is the response from Cerritos College's Talon Marks about the possibility of its newspaper cut during the fall semester. I STILL say hell no to the cut.

As you are aware, the print edition of the Talon Marks will be cut next semester because of low enrollments in the class that produces the print newspaper. We have tried to come up with many different compromises but have all been shot down by the administration on this campus. We been in contact with the new student president and trustee, who also support the idea of keeping print publication and agree that it is the best way to get information out to students.

The administration on campus has informed us that we will be able to keep the online edition of the Talon Marks. However, this creates a problem. We believe that the online edition is not the best way to get the information out to the majority of students on campus. The online edition has a different target audience and that audience is those who do not attend Cerritos College, but still have an interest in the college. The print edition of the Talon Marks is the immediate source of news for many students on campus. In the economical state we're in, a student voice needs to be heard.

At the recent planning and budget meeting held at Cerritos College a term was brought up that was very interesting and that was to make cuts while still maintaining student services. Our main argument that with out the print edition of the Talon Marks, the students will not receive the level of service Cerritos College strives to provide.

Another problem the Talon Marks can face is the loss of advertising revenue. If there is a time when the administration decided that the print edition can be brought back it will no longer have the clout that it has now with the national advertising agencies. This past semester, despite the bad economy, the Talon Marks print edition was able to bring in advertising because a lot advertisers see college students as a key demographic. Once the Talon Marks loses the clout it has built up over many years it will be hard to get the national advertisers back.

This can also mean the end of the student press at Cerritos College. If enrollments drop in the two other classes that support the newspaper, Jour 103 and Jour 121, they to can be cut if the administration decided to use the same logic it used in canceling the Jour 105 class. By not having a print edition there is less visibility for the program therefore this can also lead to a decline student enrolling into the program.

There is no easy answers during these hard economic times, however there needs to be more discussion into possible solutions that will fit both the need of the administration to save money and need of the students of Cerritos College to have a voice and be informed.

The Cerritos administration is wrong. ASCC President Oscar Franco better do something, and if Talon Marks does address this to the Board of Trustees and other administrators, I will also want to address them and let them know that this is a HUGE mistake!!!

Talon Marks print edition to be gone?

Perhaps this is NOT a surprise, but I also am disappointed to hear that Talon Marks' print edition is looking to fizzle out. I say, "HELL the FUCK NO!!" to the Cerritos College administration. And also this is a chance for someone to DO something and finally look toward getting the minimum of 20 students in the Journalism 105 newspaper article writing class. SOMEONE has to...hell I'm willing to do it. I'm no longer a student there but I AM willing.

I know that there have been passed semesters that the publication has had less than the 20 students to stay afloat but now that it is known that there is a possibility, a more than likely that the newspaper is not there, NOW do you understand why this can't no longer be ignored, Talon Marks!!!

Being a former Talon Marks writer, I am glad to hear that you will appeal this decision...PLEASE DO!!! There is NO way that Cerritos College can't have its newspaper. The journalism program helped me, and has continued to help me pursue what I have always wanted to do...DON'T let the administration dictated what you should do. And the bottom line is this, "HELL NO, TALON MARKS WILL NOT GO!!!"

End of the semester, but summer's arrived

It's nearing the end of the Los Angeles City College spring semester. Summer session begins June 15. I can't wait. But things are slowing down. So, that's the reason for the gap between writes. I'm just limping toward the end. And well...waiting for the next. Other then that, nothing else to report.

Oh, wait, I did the special election on Tuesday, more than 300 votes showed up to vote, but the outcome is not news, is it?

Student Presidents aren't Cerritos' saviors

RE: "Barrita leaves, Cerritos rejoices"

In regard to the Cerritos College's Talon Marks editorial, I could help but laugh because what makes you think that there will be new leadership within the ASCC? What makes you think that Oscar Franco (at right) will be that savior. What you have made him out to be is the campus' Barack Obama. What is the most that Franco could do? Buy every appointed senator new suits.

Remember if he ended up being the only person running for student president, then he could have those "car salesman" looks for new suits. As for former ASCC President Michael Barrita (middle picture) leaves Cerritos well, at least the campus doesn't have to deal with its Playboy Hugh Hefner anymore. I give Barrita credit for just making himself the playboy that he has become. I spoke to him in January and he said that he had grown as a person because of his involvement within student government, but there is something else that has grown. Use your imagination.

Along with Barrita, former ASCC Vice President, President and Student Trustee Jason Macias was along for the ride. But I have to say that like Barrita, Macias wasn't any better. Macias, too was a Playboy. Cerritos' student presidents aren't saviors they're more like underwear; you change it after one year.

Oh where, oh where, could this Fabio be?

Hey everyone out there in blog world:

I know that I have asked you this before (Click here to read a previous blog entry). But I wanted to know if anyone out there has seen Fabio who is from Italy. I met him back in 1999, when I first attended Cerritos College. He and I had made contact through a Madonna related web site, to which I wasn't sure who he was. I thought he was some stranger. But in the short time he and I spoke via e-mail, then there was an exchange of letter. Above is a photo of Fabio and below is the letter that he sent me from Rome.

In this letter he says that he's a Madonna fan and that it was nice to see a picture of me. (At that time, I was more than 180 lbs.). In the wake of the earthquake that hit more than two months ago, I immediately thought of him and if he was okay. I would have turned to MySpace, Facebook or (at least) Twitter, but I wanted to see if anyone knew anything about Fabio or if someone can some way get this to him and see if he is okay. I am doing this because I saw someone yesterday that I hadn't seen in eight years. It was SO great to see him.

I don't know how many people read this blog, my blog and I don't know how many people it reaches but if it were to reach someone in Rome I would be grateful because all I wanted to know is, "Where is Fabio?" And all I want to ask him is how is everything going? Again, I would appreciate anything.

What's going on, so far

Things have been quiet so far for the last few days. But here is the jist of it:

-The spring semester ends June 6.
-I have to update my other two blogs Airwave and Airwave Blog 2 (sorry, I haven't had time).
-Summer session begins June 15.
-And I have been at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach every Saturday, so drop by if you can.

Other then that I have to attend the last lectures and take the last exam before the semester ends. But hopefully I will have something new or in fact, in pictures.

It took me a while to read through this week's Cerritos College's Talon Marks publication. And I want to apologize for the delay of writing. But here is feedback of this week's newspaper:

First and foremost, to consider your editor who is wearing a mask, as a photo illustration, is not a photo illustration. One thing you could have done is animate him to look like a illustration. While it's true that people are wearing mask to not get the swine flu, why is it that it looks like your editor has the swine flu?

As for the story itself about the swine flu, where is the student reason to the outbreak? And here is a sample way of what the story could have begun:

If a pandemic of the AN1HI virus, also known as the swine flu, were to hit, Cerritos College's staff, faculty, and administration are prepared to handle it.. The campus is not the one handling it, its the staff, faculty and its administrators. But for me, the students are important. It's great that the newspaper reached 14 pages. It's the first time in a long time I have seen that.

But here are additionally things that need work. How many clubs attended the Cinco De Mayo celebration? I mean, you say that club and people can together. Yeah. Okay, but who cares? And again on your campus construction where is the student reaction? Talon Marks is a student publication, speak to them!

Meeting "Deal or No Deal" model Patricia

First: No pictures

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to meet NBC's Deal or No Deal model and No. 9 case holder Patricia Kara at a Hollywood Show in Burbank. And I have to say that it was a great thing that I met her. I approached her toward the end of the convention and said, "Patricia is my middle name." And she asked, "What's your name?" I said, "Norma."

When she was about to leave she came over for a minute and said, "Good-bye Norma Patricia." I said, "Good-bye Patricia." And I added that I would continue to watch her on television. However, I thought to myself and said, "Every time that Howie Mandel says "Patricia, open your case" I will say, "Yeah, Patricia."

And finally I want to thank the people whom let me be there at the Hollywood Show. Your kindness is beyond words. In addition, thanks to Patricia Kara for stopping to talk to me for a minute. I will NOT forget it.

Cerritos' Vice President and Student Trustee

Here is a look at Cerritos College's newly elected Vice President Rosa Castaneda and Student Trustee Felipe Grimaldo. Grimaldo, a former marine can try to impress with his discipline. And Castaneda can do the same as the "Hillary Clinton" wannabe.

The marine man made have a bit of an advantage but let just see if he is not the same as former Vice President and Student Trustee Jason Macias. Perhaps he could be and that is a surprise. But like I said before I will not anticipate ANY change. And Castaneda is the second woman to be elected VP.

But in all honesty the woman has been afraid of running for President. And yet, they wonder why women struggle to be equal to men. But it all goes back to this quote that Franco was "qualified" to be that student body representative.

This two, along with President Oscar Franco will get nothing done. Knowing that there was only one person who ran for president and vice president Cerritos College's Student Body Elections came down to this: IT WAS A SHAM. But then that describes, the Associated Students of Cerritos College, huh?

Franco is Cerritos' new student president

Oscar Franco is Cerritos College's new student body president. That means the salesman won the job. Well, Talon Marks, you got your wish, Franco is now the president. Now, just sit back and watch as he, along with the other student presidents have done nothing.

I mean when I was reading the Talon Marks editorial about how Franco was quote: "is qualified and has the making of a great representative of the student body..." I thought, "Isn't that what they have said about President Barack Obama?"

The difference between Franco and Obama is this: Franco was elected because of his salesman looks and Obama was elected because he was black. I mean, please. So, when you say "is qualified and has the making of a great representative of the student body..." you just joined every non-liberal newspapers on the planet Earth.

And just a thought of this, who are you, The Los Angeles Times? The truth be told no leadership is needed in the ASCC is make it better. If putting people in office what it takes to see what they can do, then they should have auditioned for "American Idol."

About turning 29

April 27 is next Monday and here I am looking toward turning 29. But I don't feel that old, ladies and gentleman because I am still young. There is nothing better to feel then to think that you are young.

So, what do I mean? I mean, that everything is okay. And in reality I age 500 years old every year. That means I'm actually 14,500 years old. And yet I look like this?

Just a couple of things that I forget to mention the last time. April 12 would have been Michele Cassiano's birthday. As you can see from below this is the Michele that I remember. It's hard to believe that it has been more than two years since she passed away. Yet, even as the days pass without her on this earth, I have remembered the lessons that I have learned from her; and that;s because of her.

What is it about her that I remember most? Everything! And yet, when she passed I cried. I let myself go and I remember the times that I had with her. I remember the time that she said that I should never leave her again because she could figure out how to shut the blinds, (automatically no less). I shared with her the time I met author Oriah in Anaheim.

Fiery Redheads

First, I'd like to apologize, but I have been busy at the Aquarium of the Pacific this spring break and there was an incident that got my attention if you don't mind, I'd like to describe.

Fiery Redheads at least was out yesterday as a mother was battling with her daughter. Apparently the daughter was on bad behavior and I'm not kidding, the mother grabbed the child and threw her in the stroller.

My first reaction was, "Wow!" That all I could say. I mean I know that children five years old and up can be a pain in the ass. But think about is it worth it to mistreat them with at least 1,000 other people watching? I think not. However, there are a handful of parents don't care and will lash out.

There is a way to express herself in a more calm demeanor. If someone will lash out do it at home where others won't watch.

I'm just saying...

By the way, the little girl was a redhead but the red turned out more from her face.

Here is a latest photos of me. It took forever to get a new one but here I am. So what do you think? The hair has got a little longer then before but I have decided that I will NOT have a ponytail anymore. Well, please enjoy it and hopefully I will not take forever to get another photo.

I have lost weight the last time I saw you. But I still have more weight to lose. My ideal weight is 130 lbs. So, I have 30 lbs. more to lose.

I know I can do it. I have to. For me. And if I can lose 13 lbs. I can lose the other 30 lbs. Again thanx to everyone who has read this...

Here is one of the latest poems that I have thoughts of and will now share with all of you:

Sometimes I think that there is nothing to live for
and yet, I look at myself and ask was it worth it
Pain and sorrow have left and return to me but the
question is how is it that I can afford it

Nobody thought that I would make it in life
No one fail to see that I had the will to survive
I had to deal with my own insecurities to want to
live that properous life

I look at myself and wonder how long can I live
How much can one take
I had my reasons to write, to think and to sing
my sorrows away
But if anyone didn't understand because they have
never live through abuse, anger and pain
I got down on my knee and ask God, "When will you take all this pain away"

He never answered, I had to look for it myself
every day and every night
I wasn't going to put up with all the shit without as so
much of a fight

I have live that long to write about my life in a book
because I want to experience the life that I know
I should have
But what can I teach people about me if I am only 29

I met people I love because of who, not what they are
Look at my mind not my body for the emotional scars
Everyday I fought to life that one thing I wanted the most

But some people thought that I have nothing to live for
because of all of the shit that make and went without the fear
of it because about being without it but did I have a choice?

If you have met me and now me to be kind that is the respect you get
for me in return, because the good thing about you is that you are a kind,
funny and your a pure indivdual soul.

Hello everyone!
As promised I will begin sharing some poetry that I have in my "head" and so without much fanfare, distractions and regret here is one poem that I have had. I call this poetry, "Surviving Without You."

Most of the time I thought I was lost but I found myself again when I decided to wake up. Now, that I am awake I will try to make the most of the time on earth.

There are no certainties, there are no boundaries that one much cross in order to live.

But do what you can, do what you love and give. Now that I have lived on this earth, now that I have seen the best and the worst, I will try to make the most of that time.

Without you in it I thought I would not survive. But I have. Look at me, I'm alive and well. If you thought I wasn't going to make it then you can go to hell.

Wthout you I know who I am. I don't have time to see you. But I know one thing for certain, I can, and I will survive without you.

There. I did it. Don't worry all of the other poems will be much longer then this. But I will begin with some one that are important and reflective of me. I hope that you don't mind reading some very, very personal stuff and ideas.

That is what I hope to do. So...with that said, I want to thank you for the space and for the chance. That's all I ask.

The month of April is here. And for the entire month of April I will do something that I have never thought of doing while having this blog. I will share personal thoughts, poetry and other writings that I have thought about but never had the opportunity to have published. Let me remind you that all of the poetry I have written is more personal then that poem that was published in the spring 2007 for the Writer's Anonymous Untitled Magazine. Read more about it here. Anyway, more of the poetry I have written in my "head" will be release for you to read.

Headlines from the Los Angeles Collegian

Being that I am a Los Angeles City College student and have been reading the Los Angeles Collegian here are some headlines for its student publication. First a LACC student is suing the Los Angeles Community College District and a instructor for not letting him express himself; basically denying him his freedom of speech about religion, that I can only assume that address why being gay is morality wrong. Anyway, he's suing because according to him, he was called a fascist by the instructor. He has an attorney. This is funny to me, I mean every time someone says something to me that is fascist that only means everyone has a right to sue. I will after reading this. Yeah, do what I have to do to get the money of the taxpayers. The only thing I ask is, "Who's next in line?"

The next headline has been an instructor is charged with first-degree murder of his wife and could be facing 25 years to life in prison. This to me is NO surprise, I mean look at Cerritos College a former Judicial Affairs person was arrested and jailed for Financial Aid fraud. But while it took time and more than two-and-a-half a former men's basketball coach was hired for the position. As for this, a student said that the publicity of the murder trial is bad for the college. But look at it this way all of us are theives if money is flaunted in front of us; so what's up with that?

Finally, a sad story about a 18-year-old student who died while in geography class. She would have been 19 this coming month. The female student sleeping and collapsed but conflicting accounts say that it took ambulances 15 minutes to get there while Campus Police were there in five minutes. This is sad. I mean just knowing that she lived only for a short time, it only means that everyone (including me) need to appreciate the time we have. And that's why I visit Cerritos College and everyone I have come to know.

There you go...just three major headlines and as construction continues on campus with a new dental technology and science building a remodel building and soon enough a new location for the campus bookstore student lounge and library to be completed by 2010, LACC is different but you never forget your first love...

First, my apologies for the gap between blog entry but so far the semester is going and going. And here is something that is different, March 31 the Los Angeles City College campus will be closed in celebration of Ceasar Chavez. That to me is different. But here's the things men are still funny.

What IS it with them?! I don't know. Hollywood is different and I like it. I still go to Cerritos College. I see MY fans! I love my fans. Here is the difference between celebrities who have fans, and those who are my fans. Celebrities know that they have fans. I, on the other hand, love and appreciate MY fans.

I still think that every single social site is a joke. First, it was MySpace, Facebook and now, the (site of the moment) Twitter. I will not be part of this site either because I can't do this.

I have told you the reason behind my decisions NOT to be part of a social site again. I know the risks, temptations and horrors of these sites. I stand by this decisions and I hope you can respect it...I want that much.

She's 12, and growing old gracefully

Just to get away from the campus nonsense at Los Angeles City College and Cerritos College, yesterday it was known that our dog, Prieta has early stages of arthritis at 12 years old. I love this dog to death, and to see my little girl suffering from this, is realizing that she is getting old. Prieta has been with us since 1997, and I instantly fell in love with her.

But I know soon enough that she will leave us but in the meantime love her to death so long as she is with us. Besides, like I said, "She is the (Super) star." Read more here. And you know what...

Just looking at her makes me see how to grow old gracefully...

Your former Cerritos College staff writer is at it again; this time at Los Angeles City College by way of the "Letter to the Editor" that was published on March 11 to its student publication the Los Angeles Collegian. I could no longer stand back and watch as the Associated Student Organization has been ignored. Below is the letter that I submitted via e-mail. The bulk of it is how and why student government should be covered and if those who are on staff need help, I'm willing to help out.

And no, I'm not crazy, the Los Angeles Collegian could do better. I also was proud to mention Cerritos' student publication, Talon Marks. I always am proud. And it is something I will never forget even when I'm 5,000 years old. Besides the only thing that the Collegian has going for it, is the fact that there is more color in its paper.

Men and flirting don't mix

Men and flirting don't mix. Los Angeles has its weird people and here is why I say that. Men are sissies when it comes to flirting and no they shouldn't try it. I mean, I know that I'm going to Los Angeles City College but men please what it is with the "pick up" lines. Men who try to get my attention or anyone's attention is trying way too hard.

Here are some examples: Men who say, "When are you going to take a ride with me on my bike," (this one can from the mouth of a biker I ran into, definite turn off) or, I love this one, "Where are you from?" "You make my day when you smile." And those are just a few.

These don't work on me. IF you want to get my attention just be yourself. And if you can make me laugh that is a plus...A nice man I meant has done that, make me laugh that is, and that's cool...I don't want to give his name but he doesn't have to try, he's just IS funny...

And no I'm NOT in love with him.

Student angered by Talon Marks in letter

A Cerritos College student wrote a "Letter to the Editor" to the Talon Marks for its newspaper last Wednesday. I know that you can't read it but I started laughing when I read this.

Talk about someone who was pissed. But anyway, Shantal Voorwinden, criminology, law and society, and communications major, who expressed disappointed in the Talon Marks. So, I'm guess Voorwinden is saying that Talon Marks is a Nazi?

As a student of Los Angeles City College I could no longer sit back and watch. So ladies and gentlemen, I wrote a "Letter to the Editor" to the spring staff of the L.A. Collegian staff. Here is the basics of the letter that I wrote. Where the hell is the coverage of the student government meetings. I as a student was wondering that from the beginning and also just wondering as a student journalist.

I know that all of the meetings throughout the semesters are boring, yes? But that is not the point. The point is writing about stories that will affect students and just to give you an idea here are some of the stories that appeared this last week:

There was a column about the facts that students should go to team games and support its team, and now I ask you, how the hell does that affect the student population of LACC. The LACC Cubs are a great team, for sure, but this is not the way to get people to care about the campus. Another one is about the restrooms and its uncleanness. Sure the restrooms are a pain in the ass, but that doesn't matter.

Now, the bottom line of the letter is get this, get someone to cover these meetings and if not, why put out a newspaper?

A night of 'Rent' at the Pantages Theatre

Where do I begin to describe Sunday night at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre? Well, I guess I will start here: Ladies and Gentleman I saw the Tony-award winning Jonathan Larson's musical "Rent." And let me just to let you know, IT WAS AMAZING!!! Three original members appeared and they were Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Gwen Stewart. As Roger Davis and Mark Cohen, Pascal and Rapp, were absolutely amazing. And yes, I cried before the title track was finished.

Here's what makes "Rent" amazing, the story of struggling artists surviving in New York in the 1980s and dealing with AIDS. I know, I know, Pascal and Rapp who were in the original cast makes this musical work but with others like Justin Johnston who play Angel Schunard, and Lexi Lawson who play Mimi Marquez, this musical makes people think about the way that they should live their lives.

Here what happened when I got there. I arrived at 5:50 p.m. and waited until the doors open to go in. One of the first things I did was I kept gawking at the structure of the Pantages. Let me just say this about the building: majestic. The chandillers were amazing and they looked like pyramids. I also met one of the nicest usher who helped me find my seat. I didn't get his name but he was so polite that anyone knows who he is, I just wanted to say thank you for your kindness. At the intermission, after an hour-and-a-half he ask if I was enjoying the show. I told him that I was crying before the title track was finished and he said that, that was a good thing. I know it is. But here's a look at the Playbill and the shirt (below).

It had been five years since I last went to the theater and I was so happy to have gone and trust me when I say, I was so excited I didn't sleep that well. I was just happy to be sitting in the balcony seats because I was able to see the entire stage. And there is talk of Pascal doing Adia in its movie version; that would be awesome. The show ended at 9:15 p.m. But let me just say the opportunity to go to the theater is great.

Meeting the "other" Norma

Yesterday I was able to talk to the "other" Norma in my class. She sat next to me in the front row, and I thought this was the only chance to talk to her. Well, I only talked to her for less than a minute and told her that it was cool to meet another Norma. I've met four Normas during my college time and this is my take on anyone named Norma.

We Normas have a sense of pride about ourselves and take it from me, I am full of pride. Well, my pride has gotten me in trouble with my family I know that having pride in who you are is important. I have struggled with people telling me that I would amount to nothing in life. But obviously they haven't seen the friendship that are dear to me and the people whose kindness is beyond words.

You see, I don't think you understand, anyone who has ever been kind to me, let me be me, is someone whom I hold in the highest regard. I cherish the people who are kind to me and will never forget who these people are; that's why I have expressed my deepest gratitude to everyone at the Cerritos College Bookstore. Now you understand? And it's true I will never forget.

So in sense, this Norma was cool...she seems nice and everyone I meet is cool and their kindness...well you know. But here's the one thing that you should know, I live by this motto: "If you make me laugh, that's cool, but if I make you laugh, then that's the most coolest thing ever."

By the way, this Norma's last name is Rodriguez...

Getting ready for 'Rent' on Sunday

This Sunday is the big and anticipated performance of "Rent" at the Pantages Theatre. I have my outfit ready, and I will go formal. Since this is my first time going to the first in five years I will no doubt be gawking at everything inside the Pantages. But I will be cheering and screaming my lung out for Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp.

They have made memorable characters, and I hear Gwen Stewart will be in it too? Cool. Well, I will let you know what happens. Now, if you will excuse me I will go and buy a box of tissue cause I know I will be bawling my eyes out too.

What does A.S.A.P. mean? Well, before I get into that, let me tell you something that, at least for me is important. It doesn’t matter who you are because I will tell you now remember to A.S.A.P. I know that I have only live (almost) 29 years on this earth but if you were the one who teased me because of the way I walk, I will remember to A.S.A.P. To the guy who teased me because of my disability I will remember to A.S.A.P.

To everyone in high school who didn’t pay attention to me because they were the most popular, I will remember to A.S.A.P. For those who I didn’t see again in 2008 because I didn’t know your name, I will remember to A.S.A.P. To those I met the first time at Cerritos College and after I left in 1998, I will remember to A.S.A.P. To those I met in Whittier at the Los Angeles Sheriff Training Facility, I will remember to A.S.A.P.

To those of you who I met again at Cerritos when I returned to the campus, I will remember to A.S.A.P. To all of those who are writing for the Cerritos publication Talon Marks now and have written for them before, I will remember to A.S.A.P. To the adviser of the Talon Marks who taught me and at times criticized me for what I have said about the publication, I will remember to A.S.A.P. Despite the criticism of those who are on Talon Marks I will remember to A.S.A.P. To those who I met and were kind to me I will remember to A.S.A.P.

And despite the criticism from doctors who has said that I will not survive because when I was born I was less than three pounds, because I was born with cerebral palsy and was told I will never walk normal again, I will remember to A.S.A.P.

To everyone whom I met in Hollywood and for those whom I haven’t yet because I haven’t got around to you yet, but I promise I will, I will remember A.S.A.P. To Darren and David and Kelly at StarWorld Hollywood for those kindness and Madonna stuff, I remember to A.S.A.P. When I travel on the bus and ride the Metro Rail Train, I will remember to A.S.A.P.

To everyone at the Cerritos College Bookstore whom I met and have treated me with the utmost kindness and friendship and like family I will remember to A.S.A.P. To those in the bookstore who are just as stars as I am and who don’t mind if I say that I am YOUR biggest fan, I remember to A.S.A.P. If I made you laugh at the bookstore and you have said, “Hi” to me and have become MY biggest fan, I will remember to A.S.A.P.

To Michele Cassiano, Monica Estada and Michele’s sister Tina, whom I met on July 1, 2001, and for showing me there is a reason to live and treasuring the moments of talk, listening and all of their teachings, I will remember to A.S.A.P. Because in the end what Michele taught me about life and just living all in one, is this:

H.S. cancels 'Rent' and Wings Magazine

Hello everyone:

I wanted to shared the following newspaper article that appeared in the Los Angeles Times on Feb. 18 about Newport Beach Corona Del Mar High School canceling its performance of the Jonathan Larson musical "Rent." Normally I don't highlight this as something to talk about but...

Cerritos College's Wings Magazine was out this issue and I thought I would share my thoughts, and my thoughts alone on the issue of gay rights and gay marriage and all that jazz. First, I would like to say to the person who wrote in the front of the magazine about what the photo meant that I am glad you did.

For me personally, I say fuck with all the nonsense of this not being an issue. It is and trust me when I say that I have met and know numerous gay people who are like you and I. They are looking toward just being able to survive, and live within everybody in this planet. I know that people such as Harvey Milk were just beginning to spotlight the ability to be who they are.

And if you saw the film, "Milk" starring Sean Penn (good luck to my man this Oscar weekend) the audience only got the opportunity to see a small sample of what he was up against. And just like Matthew Shepard, Brandon Teena, and Milk these people and others MUST and will continue to be heard.

The words in Wings Magazine says everything I want to say, and if I may can I add this...I, Norma, have been keeping this from everyone and I think you know what it is. I said it when I was 16-years-old. Was I proud at the beginning, fuck no, I wasn't but I have learned for the last 13 years to keep on living and make everyone happy. That is my goal for this life. If I can make you laugh, and if you tolerate my obsession and if you love me for me, I will love you right back.

Like I have been saying in previous blog entry, I love my fans and here is the difference between me, "the star" and those who have become stars. Those who have become stars like Britney, Justin, Paris, Lindsay, know that they have stars. But this star, the one named Norma, loves, cares and listens to her fans. LOVE TO ALL MY FANS at Cerritos College and beyond. I feel like a gay icon, so I guess that makes me gay, no?

Countdown toward the 'Rent' performance

Here is your first look at the ticket I purchased to go see the Broadway tour of the Jonathan Larson musical "Rent." The Tony-award winning musical taken from the context of Puccini's La Bohéme will be at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre. And how lucky I was to get my hand on this ticket.

I wanted to go to the 2 p.m. showing on a Sunday but was told that the only tickets that were available were for the V.I.P. section for $130! I thought, "No way!" But she looked again and said that there were tickets for only single seats for the 6:30 show for $45. Sold!

So there you go...BUT ladies and gentlemen the bottom line is, I'm going. And all I can say is I hope I don't pee in my pants because if I do, imagine the river I would cause?!

The Aquarium and a shout out to MY fans

I went back to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, and let me tell you it was fine to be back there. I know that it will take time to get use to the names and faces of the people there. It had been more than two-and-a-half years since I left but I will get my bearings back. Anyway, I am only doing this for a reason. For me. And for a better reason. However, that reason will remain undisclosed.

Long Beach is okay, and Los Angeles City College is different. Different space, different population. I will read the campus newspaper soon and I will compare it to Cerritos College's Talon Marks. And speaking of Talon Marks, there is much to be improved on within the pages. And the thing is you guys know it. I have spoken to people about it, and they have said that they no longer read it because I’m not there. Hmm. Well, that’s because I did my time. I have found that there are people to meet, people to know and for that reason, and others, I am a star.

Like the people whom I have met at the bookstore, anyone who’s anyone knows that I will treat you with kindness if you do the same, and the people who have done that so are…those who work at the Cerritos College bookstore. All of those people are genuine, kind-hearted and the most beloved people I know. And besides, these are my fans…so…naturally I love my fans. See you all soon.

Saying NO to MySpace and Facebook

For those of you who don’t know me, I hope that what I am about to write gives you an idea of who I am. I know that at time I can be honest, and yet, critical of things that either happen or don’t happen, of people, and of things. In this sense, I want to take this opportunity to analyze a thing, and in the end, I will have to say hell no to it.

The thing that I will analyze? The social sites MySpace and Facebook. These two social sites WILL NOT be something that I will be a part of. There is no way because I have experience the fantasy and popularity of sites like these and from the learning experience, I will NOT be drawn to its attention every again. What is it about these sites that have people thinking that they will learn constructive and apply it to life? I know that there are people out there in Los Angeles City College and Cerritos College, who have a MySpace account and what to connect with friends. But I find that using e-mail, or a phone call will work best.

MySpace and Facebook will fade after one experience the drawback of it. I have. I did. And from this, I say that social sites are full of shit. During the time that I have surfed the internet, I look at it this way, IF you want to talk to me send me an e-mail or call me. There is NOTHING that social sites will do but drive people to do the unthinkable (think of the teenage girl who hung herself after a “boy” didn’t want her and it turned out to be someone else who was it) and besides what makes you think that there are no undercover cops online?

There are. SO ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who have a MySpace or Facebook page, I respect you for it, and that is all fine and dandy for you but for me, there is no way in hell I will be hooked on something that is only a fad; the day that education go virtual, when students will no longer have to attend class because of “virtual” teachers is the day that I will have MySpace and Facebook. But until then…It’s a NO.

Norma to attend 'Rent' performance

I am still on Cloud 9 about this. How do I say this? Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be in attendance to see the Broadway tour performance of Jonathan Larson's "Rent." I wasn't able to see it on Broadway, and when it was in Los Angeles back in 2002 or was it 2003.

The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. AND...this will be the FIRST time that I will be able to see the inside of the Pantages. The Hollywood landmark has been there for years and having been living in Los Angeles all my life. And just like I saw the inside of the CinemaDown of the Arclight I will just admire it, like I did the structure of the Arclight.

I am soooooo happy that right now, I can jump out of my shoes and so far Los Angeles City College is an experience and full of students and is a baby compared to Cerritos College. I know that I will enjoy this. If Rentheads know, if you love it the live performance is great. I know the words but I am NOT a Renthead IF I didn't see it on Broadway.

Meeting people, making friends...(I think)

I have survived my first day of the spring semester at Los Angeles City College. How interesting that I have made "quick friends." Having been at LACC for only a short time, I have to be more active and more bitching, if that's even possible.

The thing is, people from the Assoicate Student Organization were giving away a student planning if you did a quick survey. But that, in itself is a joke, because if one wants to be in the ASO one has to paid for it. The cost? It's $7 to get in. No, thanks, I'm better off being a member of the public.

As for the overall sense of this semester, well, that is still to be determined. I like the campus, it's small and no overcrowding but there is room for improvement on all levels. We shall see. Now, if you will excuse me, I will now return to finishing the book, "The Male Body."

LACC's ASO and my last day at Cerritos

I look forward to the spring semester at Los Angeles City College on Feb. 9. Yes, it's finally here and from speaking to one acting senator from LACC's Associated Student Organization, he finds it a joke. No, really? I will paraphrase what he said. It came down to this, that the ASO is doing nothing for the students of LACC and that there is more that could be done that the attention span of the representatives is a peanut.

That's funny. The same feelings can be said about Cerritos College's Associated Students. I went its ASCC meeting Wednesday, and they are all by far the most narrowed minded, egoistical individuals on earth. So, basically both campuses and all others should just get married. Do you think?

And finally...my last day at Cerritos' bookstore was today and there were no tears. I love every single person there and I told them (through cards) how much I appreciated everything they have done for me. I mean it guys. Besides, if I started balling me eyes out, what kind of celebrity would I be?

Norma's final week at Cerritos...or it is?

I am looking forward to the spring semester at Los Angeles City College that begins on Feb. 9. It's here, it's finally here!! And that leads me to this; an end of the run at Cerritos College's bookstore. But I am not completely leaving Cerritos. I will be performing in the Vagina Monologues Mach 4-5 and I will attend a few ASCC Senate meetings. Who knows?

But at least the semester (for me at least) begins and everyone at the Cerritos bookstore is beyond the nicest people on the planet. Thank you to everyone involved, Paul, Carol, Ximena, Cindy, Shah, Cinthnia, Gilbert, both Lisa and Lisa, Griselda, Jesus, and everyone in between. Thank you for everything and all of your kindness.

I will see you all soon...and all of my other fans too. And you thought I had an ego...
